With the rise of the “household family” (yes, that’s a thing), it’s no surprise that baby animals have been added to vacation plans. According to Orbitz, searches for pet-friendly hotels increased by 30 percent between 2017 and 2018.
“People treat their pets like family and don’t want to leave them behind when they travel,” added Ross Meredith, general manager of The Westin Ottawa.
Frank Campo, director of sales and marketing at Kimpton St. George in Toronto, agrees. “Society is more accepting of traveling with pets, which makes it easier,” she says. “Our pet policy started with Bill Kimpton, the founder of Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants. He had a miniature collie named Chianti. They were reminders of home.”

Pets also receive a special welcome letter from the general manager and the hotel has a dog and cat room service menu prepared by the executive chef.

Dog Friendly Activities In The Outaouais
Demonstrating its commitment to pets, the Westin Ottawa continues to work with Ottawa Dog Rescue, as well as providing sky dog beds, water bowls and special rugs for furry guests at no extra cost. Since 2015, the property has provided a loving, temporary home to abandoned, abused or neglected dogs in the lobby while they wait to find their forever homes. Hotel guests may be willing to walk pet dogs during their stay.
The motto of Kimpton brand hotels is “If your pet walks in the door, we welcome you” and the Toronto Outpost is no different. Beds and bowls are available at reception, and pets are welcome including gift bags, treats and toys. There is no charge for four-legged guests, and the hotel can arrange dog sitting and walking services.
