Travelers driving the highways of the South and Midwest in the mid-1900s must have noticed a barn roof or two that read “See Rock City.” It is an iconic marketing program created by Garnett and Frieda Carter to promote their attraction on Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The gardens were opened to the public in May 1932, and the following year, more than 900 barn roofs in 19 states provided Rock City advertising.

In the late 1920s, the Carters began building this large walkable garden on their private property. They have collected more than 400 native plants and placed them along a path that winds through the ground’s unique rocks, such as the Eye of the Needle, the Balancing Stone and the Fat Man’s Squeeze. Rules for pets visiting Rock City Park. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times. All pet waste must be collected and disposed of properly. Pets on a leash are welcome on the Enchanted Path and on the terrace of Café 7. Strollers (for children and pets) are not allowed in the park due to narrow passages and steepers.
The total distance covered on the trail is only 3/4 of a mile, but there is so much to see, it can take two to four hours to see it all.
Buster thought it was a great place to hang out and couldn’t understand why the kids refused to follow the path in front of him….
Dog Friendly Savannah

The park’s pièce de résistance is the Lovers’ Leap view, where seven states are said to be visible on a clear day. Here you’ll also find Cafe 7 with pet-friendly seating on the terrace and the 7 State Flag Court, where the flag of every visible state flies.
Adventure seekers can cross the Swing-A-Long Bridge, a 180-foot long suspension bridge through the clear sky. (Or take the rugged rock bridge if heights make you feel awkward.) And if you’ve worked up an appetite, Big Rock Grill has regular pet-friendly seating at the entrance.
Located 1,700 feet on Lookout Mountain, Rock City is the perfect place where you and your pet can spend the day enjoying the beauty created by aspiring gardeners and Mother Nature. This is a place you will never forget!
