Dog Friendly Lodging Near Jim Thorpe Pa – Small family My camping trip was in rural Pennsylvania to the small town of Jim Thorpe, nestled in the Lehigh Gorge. I grew up on the NY/PA border, so I miss those transitional mountains. Vegetables! Jim Thorpe has also compiled “Best of” or “Must See” lists from Town & Country, Expedia, Country Living, USA Today, National Geographic and more. Thorpe is a Victorian/European town. Also called “Switzerland of America”
Walking into Jim Thorpe, you will immediately see the beauty of these buildings! Many of the old buildings are beautiful and detailed! The city is easy to walk around and there are many shops, restaurants and businesses to visit. Many historic buildings have been modified, such as a fireplace converted into a bar. An Irish pub converted into a former hotel, etc. Jim Thorpe also has a bit of history that you can see everywhere in the building. Names of businesses, museums, and more. I saw the name Mosh. Chunks all over town which I found in the library was the name of an old town. Jim Thorpe was an American athlete. He changed the name of the city in memory in 1953.
Dog Friendly Lodging Near Jim Thorpe Pa
The town of Jim Thorpe focused on railroads and mining. There is a mining history museum in Jim Thorpe, and one of the main attractions is the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railroad. We saw a 1900s era steam train that used to run on the train. The trains are also dog friendly!! Unfortunately, my dog doesn’t like loud noises (horns, screeching wheels, etc.) so riding isn’t fun for us. I’m very disappointed! I can only imagine how beautiful the leaves would be. In front of the train station in Josiah White Park, there is a beautiful pavilion that makes me feel Star Hollows (Gilmore Girls)!

I’m interested in all the Victorian houses around Jim Thorpe. Two famous ones are the Asa Packer Mansion and the Harry Packer Mansion. Both buildings have an Italianate style. Asa Packer was the founder of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and guess what? What! Packer connects with Mystic! Why?? He was born here in Mystic. Connecticut in 1805. He moved at age 17 to work and settled in Mosh Chunk, Pennsylvania. The Harry Packer mansion is next door to the Asa Packer mansion across town. Jim Thorpe Harry Packer, son Asa received the house as a wedding gift. Harry Packer Mansion also inspired the Disney feature film “Haunted Mansion.” Asa Packer Mansion is open for tours and Harry Packer Mansion is a bed and breakfast. But there are weekend tours (Murder Mystery). I was amazed by the beauty of the balcony at Asa Packer Mansion, and the views of the railroad, mountains, and Jim Thorpe downtown were amazing!
