Best Dog Friendly Weekend Getaways – There’s something about January that makes me want to sit down with my calendar and plan more trips for the coming year. It’s so cold and dark outside that packing up the laptop and planning adventures is incredibly comforting.
Although we had to postpone our big trips due to the pandemic, we loved being together again in the Seattle area and had a wonderful (dog-friendly!) weekend. Having spent ten years in NYC and Chicago, it’s been great to come back and explore old haunts, as well as check out the new attractions, boutique hotels, and unique Airbnbs popping up here. And what I really liked was how many of them include dog-friendly options during your stay. I’m so glad we can bring Dave and Lizzie on our vacation.

In January 2020, I spent the perfect weekend at Vashon – and blogged about it here – and the memories of the first few months came flooding back. We had a wonderful Easter weekend in Semiahmoo in 2019 and I got to see the beautiful view and the remote beach which Lizzie loved. Just a stone’s throw from the Canadian border, this secluded spot is the perfect base for hiking and offers stunning views of the North Washington coast. Well, yes, it’s not technically available yet, but we’ve signed up to take trailers to two beautiful campgrounds in Olympic National Park. Beyond typical campsites, they offer creature comforts while providing a private and sustainable way to get into nature. I’m obsessed with the beautiful new Water’s Edge suites at this historic Orcas Island inn, which have private balconies overlooking the bay. I can see myself wrapping a book. If you haven’t heard of Tentrr, you’re missing out. We have stayed with them twice (in Vermont and on a trip to Maine that I wrote about here) and each trip was wonderful. Luxury safari lodges are often set up on prime private land like this beautiful fruit farm in Mead, Washington. You can also choose to add something extra, such as one of the fruit pies delivered to your door or fresh eggs from their farm for a delicious outdoor buffet. Still, Idaho is a short drive from Seattle, but we went far enough to stay in this aerial shot. Extras like the on-site sauna and antique coffee grinder really melt my heart. Caring is allowed, although the level of entry should be assessed as to whether or not this is the right holiday for you.
