Best Dog Friendly Walks Sydney – No matter what time of year it is, the best time to visit Sydney is to take a walk on the beach or take a walk through the city’s various forests.
But what if you want to bring your dog? Since most Sydney tours don’t allow dogs to join you, I’m digging up dog-friendly places around Sydney that are perfect for walking your dog.
Best Dog Friendly Walks Sydney
There are many great Sydney beach walks to take your dog. Although most of Sydney’s beaches do not allow dogs on the sand, dogs are often allowed on the sidewalks around them.
Best Dog Walks & Hikes Sydney 2024
The Bondi to Quig Coastal Walk is one of Sydney’s most popular walks. Some of Sydney’s most popular beaches, 6 kilometers along the city’s east coast.
Although none of the beaches allow dogs on the sand, dogs are welcome to join you on the boardwalk. Although dogs are allowed on some of the park’s trails, most are dog-friendly.
Dogs are allowed in Mark’s Park, south of Bondi Beach, after 4:30pm and before 8:30am, except for beach sculptures. Burroughs Park, south of Waverley Cemetery, allows dogs to run free all day, before going to Bronte Park to rest before 10am and after 3pm.
This trip is best done in the morning or early in the day during the cooler months to avoid the heat. Maybe leave early and have breakfast at one of the many dog-friendly cafes along the way?
Dog Friendly Beaches In Sydney
The Bondi to Coogee Coast Walk isn’t the only dog-friendly East Coast walk with mountain views. Head north to Bondi for the Federation Cliff Walk, which runs between Dover Heights and Watson’s Bay.
The official start of the hike is on Raleigh Street in Dover Heights, at the southern end of the Raleigh Preserve. Your dog will love this place, as this long rocky area has been designated as a park with a secure fence at the edge of the cliff.
Continuing north, it’s a mix of footpaths and footpaths, but in a few places you’ll need to veer off the local roads. Look out for footpath signs from time to time, many of the reserves have signs with maps. Until the end of 2022, due to security concerns, some boards were locked.

Instead, turn around at the beginning of Gap Park and retrace your steps. If you have a small dog and a passenger, you can take advantage of Sydney’s dog-friendly buses and ferries.
I’ve walked the Manly Walk from Spit Bridge to the Pier a few times, but never with my dog. This is because the normal route takes you to Sydney Harbor National Park where dogs are not allowed.
However, it is possible to walk 9km on some back roads, passing through part of the Dobroid Head National Park, although you will miss out on good parking. Signs at the end of the trail indicate dog-friendly trails.

Start at the north end of the Spit Bridge and Fisher Bay Tour. A few minutes later, you will be at Sandy Cove, on the beach of Sydney. This is a great place to let your dog run and swim, especially when the water is low.
Keep your dog safe and continue on the Clontarf Track past Clontarf Nature Reserve. At the top of the National Park, you should turn left onto Cutler Road. There are several ways to get to Forty Basket Bay.
There are no travel restrictions at Manly Wharf. Tanya Park and North Pier allow dogs to jump.
The Manly Walk to Spit Bridge is usually a one-way walk, with walkers taking a bus to the starting point or a ferry into town. If you are traveling with a small dog, they will get on the bus if you get a luggage bag.
Things To Do With Your Dog In Sydney
Otherwise, I recommend only walking part of the way and retracing your steps. The best part of the walk is the area between Manly Wharf and North Harbor Reserve.
Manly on the other side of Manly Beach is Sydney’s dog-friendly beach. Although dogs are not allowed on Manly Beach or nearby Queenscliff or Shelley beaches, they are welcome on the boardwalk outside the beach.
The 2.5 kilometer path from the northern end of Queenscliff Beach to Shelly Beach is flat and easy to walk. Along the road there are cafes or benches where you can sit and enjoy yourself.
To join the dog’s feet on the beach, head to Manly Lagoon at Queenscliff at the northern end of the walk. Manly Lagoon Park and Lagoon Park West are both dog-friendly parks, and the sand pool is a popular place for dogs to enjoy the water. Be aware that water quality changes, and should be avoided after heavy rains.
Sydney City Dog Walks
Head a few places north for tough but still short coastal hikes, and why not head up to Hurricane D? Starting south of De Cain, Rockpool, the boardwalk takes part of the boardwalk and runs about 1.5 kilometers from the Million Dollar House to the North Carle Surf Life Saving Club.
Keep your dog safe on this walk, especially around rocky hills. Be aware that the trail is rough and rocky in places other than the boardwalk sections, and some small dogs may need a hand at times.
There are lanes on both sides. Paid parking can be expensive, but there is also street parking nearby.
The southern part of the boardwalk is near the Carl Carl Lagoon, which is the Carl Carl Dog Beach. This is a dog swim, technically dogs are only allowed in the Flora and Richie Roberts Reserve on the south side of the pool. The north side is near the parking lot and the easiest way to get to the park is the beach, where dogs are not allowed.
Dog Friendly Beaches In Sydney
Another dog-friendly trail up the North Shore is the Narrabeen Lagoon Trail. The long dog walk around the lake is 8.4 km long. However, it is a simple and easy multi-use route, a mixture of paved roads, wide dirt roads and footpaths.
There are many parking lots and road entrances around the dam where you can start and finish the hike, although parking is expensive. Alternatively, if your dog doesn’t complete the entire circuit, walk a shorter section and retrace your steps.
My favorite places are Billarang Nature Reserve and the rugged area near Jameson Park. Sections of the trail are well-marked with distance markers to the next point of interest.
Dogs must be kept on their own, or you can wander into the nearby Deep Creek Nature Reserve for a relaxing break. Allow 2-3 hours to walk the entire distance around the lake.
The 11 Best Dog Friendly Beaches In Sydney 2024
Head to Sydney’s southern suburbs and you’ll find the perfect beach resort at Cronulla. The Cronulla Beach Walk is a 4km path along the eastern side of the Cronulla foreshore.
This fun trip starts near the dog-friendly Greenhills Beach and Wanda Beach Surf Life Saving Club and continues south to Bass and Flinders Point and Port Hacking Inlet.
We started our trip on the quiet south side where the parks were easy to find from the street. There is plenty of parking on the north side, but it fills up quickly during the summer months. Return the same way or go to the other end of the peninsula via Gunnamatta Park.
You don’t need to go as far south as Cronulla to enjoy Sydney’s southern suburbs. The length of Botany Bay in front of Brighton-le-Sands is a long public road that runs from the Cooks River to the Georges River.
