Given the proximity of these tours to Kananaskis, Calgary and Canmore, they are definitely a local favorite for travel. While no one can argue with the spectacular views you’ll find in Banff, you’ll find breathtaking views in Kananaskis.
This is not a comprehensive list of hiking trails in Kananaskis, nor are they all the best hiking trails in Kananaskis. This is a list of trips that everyone should take at least once. Each offers something unique, whether it’s a mountain lake, a beautiful mountain landscape, or both.
Ha Ling Peak and EEOR (below) can be found on our list of the best Kananaskis hiking trails. What makes them great? You can’t beat the view of the Canadian Rockies! The hike to Ha Ling can be blood-sucking, and the hike is expensive.
We saw people of all fitness levels complete the Ha Ling Peak climb. Although it may take some persistence, one step at a time will get you there. It’s easy to track and has great rewards. Just be careful with your hiking gear on loose rocks and never go too close to the edge.

One of our favorite Kananaskis hiking trails is Wind Ridge Hiking. We’ve seen this Kananaskis tour a few times and it never fails to impress. We are so glad we were able to take our kids on this challenging trip to Kananaskis in 2020.
The Wind Ridge Trail winds its way through the blue forest before climbing up the ridge. Plan this trip when the mountain wildflowers are blooming. A walk in the mountain meadows and the view of the mountains will take your breath away.

The Yamnuska Mountain Trail is one of Kananaskis most popular hiking trails. From a casual hike through a beautiful aspen forest to a via ferrata across the mountain, this Kananaskis tour has a variety of options.
Namnuska, the full version of Mt., is difficult to climb, but recent improvements to the Albert Parks Trail have made it more accessible. However, every year there are more rescues on the way to Mt. Yamnuska surpasses any other mountain in the Canadian Rockies.

While you often see the Ha Ling Peak hike recommended on lists of the best Kananaskis hikes, Miners Peak doesn’t get talked about much. While we think Ha Ling Peak is one of the best hiking trails in Kananaskis, we also recommend hiking Miners Peak, weather permitting.
Once you reach the saddle on the Ha Ling Peak Trail, it’s a little extra effort to climb Miners Peak, but it’s quieter and the views are great. You will also find one of the best views of Ha Ling Peak.

Family Adventures In The Canadian Rockies: Biking The High Rockies Trail In Kananaskis With Kids
After seeing Ha Ling Peak from Miners Peak, you can get an equally spectacular view on this Kananaskis hike. Tours of the EEOR (Rundle of the East End) are some of the best tours in Kananaskis.
The higher the EEOR, the better it looks! Even with these beautiful mountain views, hiking in the EEOR can be challenging, especially when it comes to lodging. We recommend using the AllTrails app for this trip.

At the risk of naming all of Kananaskis’ favorite hikes, the Wasootch Ridge Hike is definitely on this list. We hiked the Wasootch Ridge Trail for the first time about 10 years ago and fell in love with the spectacular view of Mt.
Ha Ling Peak
We have returned to this Kananaskis trip several times over the years and continue to enjoy each time as much as the last. After a steep run through the forest, you reach the ridge and hikers are treated to a breathtaking view of the mountain.
You will need to climb the final heights to complete the journey. We, like most hikers, usually do a 5.2km hike due to time constraints. But don’t worry, even if you don’t climb Wasootch Ridge, you’ll still get the best part of the trip.

Grassy Lakes is an easy hiking trail in Kananaskis that pays well. This short weekend trip to Kananaskis is very popular because it’s a great family vacation. Wathol is wide and only 4 km, almost anyone can pass it.
At the top you will be rewarded with the most beautiful turquoise lakes. A hike to Grassy Lakes is also possible in the winter and is one of the best winter hikes in Canmore. The family-friendly Kananaskis hike deals with fast snow accumulation and requires only winter boots (or micro-blades if the trail is icy).
Ha Ling Peak Hike In Kananaskis Country
Grassi Lakes has two different directions. You can do it both ways in a loop if you want. To improve the view, we recommend taking the harder route on the way up and the easier route on the way down.

Another easy hike in Kananaskis is the hiking trail to the Black Forest Suspension Bridge. Although you can park at Smith-Dorrien (Highway 742) and take the short 1km route, we recommend going to the Black Prince Suspension Bridge from Black Prince Day. From the parking lot, you’ll cross Smith-Dorrie and begin hiking the 6-mile High Rockies Trail.
The forest runs through the forest and although there isn’t much to see, it’s a nice walk through the trees that opens up to the Garashal Suspension Bridge.
King Creek Ridge Hike In Kananaskis Country
Note: The suspension bridge is closed in the winter, but there is a detour if you want to continue on the High Rockies Trail.
