Dog Vacations New England – New England has plenty of history, culture, great cities, beautiful scenery, and outdoor adventures at any time. It’s a wonderful place to explore white sand beaches, lighthouses, lakes and stunning mountain views with your furry travel companion.
New England is known for its beautiful cities, beautiful scenery, and rich history. It consists of six states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, each with its own culture and fame. From mountain peaks to ocean beaches, I’m excited to share some of my favorite things to do in dog-friendly New England.
Dog Vacations New England
Halibut Point State Park is a coastal park with limestone cliffs, nearly three miles of trails, and scenic views. There is also a visitor center and lighthouse tower on the grounds.
Incredible Dog Friendly Glamping In New England
Halibut Point is one of our favorite spots in Massachusetts. The path starts in the forest before reaching the tower and passes through the mine. We never miss an opportunity to take photos at the tower before appreciating the rare archaeological site.
The path around the quarry offers many opportunities to stop on the rocks and admire the beautiful scenery.
On the way down to the beach, the rocks can be a challenge for people with reduced mobility. As for the dogs, they have plenty of opportunities to jump rocks, explore pools and relax to appreciate the therapeutic sounds of the waves.

Pet Friendly Cabins In Vermont
One of New England’s most famous landmarks is the Covered Bridge. Originally created to protect decks from the New England cold, covered bridges have a unique design.
While you may not have thought about adding a covered bridge to your itinerary, it is a must when traveling to New England. And almost all bridges are pet friendly.
Some of our covered bridges are quite simple: a little creativity and a little time to smell a new place. Others include a hike or picnic on the sand or rocks under the bridge.
If you want to pay homage to an iconic New England landmark and get a great photo of your dog, this is your place!
Best Resorts In New England
The White Mountains cover a quarter of New Hampshire and a small portion of western Maine. With 48 peaks over 4,000 feet, it’s popular for skiing, hiking and quad biking.
For a short visit to the White Mountains, take a drive along the Kancamangus Highway. Some of the best spots along the way are Rocky Gorge, Lincoln Woods, and Sabbaday Falls.
You will find endless hiking trails, from easy to difficult. Most include lakes, waterfalls and running water. Some of my favorites are Arethusa Falls, Basin-Cascade Trail, Ripley Falls, Ammoonsuc Trail, and Lonesome Lake. And almost every hike in the White Mountains is pet-friendly.

Most Dog Friendly Vacations In New England
Cape Cod is a peninsula in the Atlantic Ocean off the southeastern coast of Massachusetts. It is a popular summer destination known for its secluded lifestyle, and tourists come for the nearby beaches, lighthouses, lakes, villages, fishmongers and restaurants.
We especially love Cape Cod in season, when it’s one of the most dog-friendly places in New England. And even less crowded! However, you will find many places that welcome pets year-round. Especially in Provincetown, which is at the top of the peninsula.
Our memories of Cape Cod include beaches, lighthouses, and Nickerson State Park. But we also visit gardens, windmills and even shop with dogs.
While there are endless beaches to choose from, our favorites are Town Neck Beach with its beautiful boardwalk and Cahoon Hollow Beach which requires a walk well down a mountain. One of my favorite parts of Cape Cod is the mountains, an amazing and unusual place in New England.
Dog Friendly New England
Gillette Castle is our favorite place in Connecticut. This property was once owned by William Gillette, a famous man in the early 20th century. Later purchased by the state of Connecticut, the park now surrounds the famous Gillette Castle and features a visitor center, museum, hiking trails, and picnic areas. There are also fun activities and walking games for visitors!
We love to walk the streets, enjoy the views of the Connecticut River, cross the lakes and explore the rustic bridges.
In addition to enjoying the scenery, we enjoyed walking around the outside of the castle. The intricate details and impressive architecture of this stone structure will surely not disappoint you. Although pets are not allowed inside, it seems that every time we visit this park we find something new to admire.

Our 6 Favorite Road Trips To Take With Dogs
Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park is about 250 acres on a peninsula between Casco Bay and the Harraseeket River. It has a diverse community and is famous for the local ospreys that nest on Googins Island. The park is open year-round and is popular for bird watching, hiking, educational programs and tours.
Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park is a recent addition to our list of things to do in New England. With miles of trails, ospreys in the trees, and beautiful water views, we love the diverse landscape.
There are several ways to approach the water, be it via sand dunes, stairs or rock slides. But what I love most about Wolfe’s Neck Woods is the view of Casco Bay from the beach.
The stunning colors of the water, almost tropical in places, contrast with the rock formations to create a beautiful scene.

If you are a nature lover, a bird watcher or a fan of a rocky beach, this is definitely your place!
Dog Mountain is a 150-acre dog-friendly mountaintop resort in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The property was owned by the talented artist, furniture maker, sculptor and writer Stephen Huneck.
Unfortunately, Huneck died at just 61 years old. But his vision lives on in Dog Mountain’s dog chapel, museum and many animal-friendly trails, lakes. They also organize events for dogs, including parties and concerts.
The Dog Chapel, dedicated to our furry friends, is a place of healing for those who have lost a furry friend. Pictures and information about deceased pets cover the walls in many areas in depth. And every detail of the church is beautiful, from the carvings of the dogs in the pews, to the stained glass, to the statues.

The other thing to enjoy at Dog Mountain is the library, which has artwork and many other products made by Huneck. The best thing about this store is that dogs can shop right next to you. All proceeds help keep Dog Mountain in business, so be sure to support this wonderful place.
Finally, you don’t want to miss roads, ponds and other areas of the property. The trails are easy, but beautiful, especially during the fall months. There is a beautiful lake where canine friends often gather to play. And you’ll find dog statues in various places, dog plaques to decorate the fence, and other special treasures scattered about. I can promise you’ve never seen anything like it!

Some of our easy walks include scenic views. Others include walking at night or around a park where there is a park. And of course, all of these visits included plenty of photos to commemorate our trip with these incredible structures.

Favorite Dog Friendly Hotels In New England
We thoroughly enjoyed our visits to Acadia National Park, without a doubt one of the most beautiful and dog-friendly places in New England. The landscape is unique and beautiful, with trees growing from the rocky shore and waves crashing against the rocks. And exploring at sunrise and sunset adds a special touch to the spectacular view.
We are far from experts in this park. However, some of our trips include hiking Jordan Lake and visiting Cadillac Mountain.
